AUDI FIS SKI WORLD CUP
The Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Bormio on 28/29 December. After three years on the Deborah Compagnoni slope in Santa Caterina Valfurva, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup will be back on the Stelvio slope inserted in the ski area of Bormio, an area of the most beautiful of the Alps and the Stelvio slope is its queen.
The Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Bormio is scheduled for 28 and 29 December:
- 28 December 2017 –Men’s Downhill race
- 29 December 2017 – Men’s Combined race
Audi FIS Ski World Cup: towards Bormio 2017
Bormio Ski has already started working on the Stelvio slope in order to host a great event. The lift company
- bought 18 new snow guns
- has been working on the strengthening of the water network
- will build a new tunnel at La Rocca in order to keep the possibility to ski along the whole vertical drop of the ski area with no interruptions, even during the event
The Stelvio slope
The Stelvio slope in Bormio is inserted in the ski area of Bormio, an area of the most beautiful of the Alps and the Stelvio slope is its queen. The ski area of Bormio in Alta Valtellina includes challenging slopes for expert skiers and thrill seekers but also simple tracks for less experienced skiers and children.
The queen of the Alps is one of the most technical and spectacular ski slopes of the world, inaugurated in 1982 for the World Series, hosted two editions of the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2005, two World Cup finals in 1995 and 2008 and from 1993 to 2013, the World Cup Downhill Men. The Stelvio slope is always in top condition, brightly lit by a lighting system during the night skiing and natural snow or failing with artificial snow produced by snow making.
The technical and spectacular slope in Bormio has the start at 2255 m. and arrival at 1268 m. in the ski stadium of Bormio, with a total height difference of 987 meters and a maximum gradient of 63%. The departure begins immediately at high speed, then two challenging corners, one on the right, the jump of stoats and then a left that lead to the jump of the “Rocca” in the woods, the “Canalino Sertorelli”, a diagonal and a path of 200 meters the Fontana Longa, other curves on the floor to reach the “Carcentina” the most challenging and decisive of the track leading to the Ciuk. By Ciuk we face the wall of “San Pietro” by a long jump at high speed, the point of greatest slope of the track and the most spectacular and exciting all the way, then come after some curves end at the finish of the ski stadium in Bormio.
On 30 December the National Alpine Champs
On 30 December Bormio will also host the National Alpine Champs:
- Men’s giant slalom
- Ladies’ giant slalom
The two races will take place at night on a floodlit Stelvio. The winners will be awarded with the national title.
